Telling Your Child About their Diagnosis

Please complete the form below if you are interested in attending a parent workshop about telling your child about their diagnosis/diagnoses. This workshop will focus on neurodiversity affirming ways to share your child's diagnoses with them, provide resources to support these discussions, and the opportunity to hear the perspectives of other caregivers.

Parent Workshop FAQs

Cost of parent workshops

The price of workshops will vary, depending on the length of the workshop, number of presenting therapists and resources required for these. Prices are typically planned from our hourly rate for therapy sessions.

Please note that you cannot claim rebates under private health or Medicare rebates for parent workshops, where your child is not receiving direct therapy.

What is the cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy for workshops is the same as for your child's therapy sessions. You can review our Therapy Partnership and Cancellation Agreement here

Can I bring my child/children to these workshops?

This depends on a few factors, and wil be different for each workshop. Each workshop will have a key contact, and you can ask them whether it is okay for your child/children to come along. At times, we may be able to offer for your child to spend the workshop time with one of our Allied Health Asssistants or a volunteer.

Factors we will consider when making this decision:

  • The age of your child/children

  • The number of requests from other caregivers to bring their children

  • Whether the workshop's informaton is suitable for children

  • Whether this may impact your ability to fully participate in the workshop to make sure you get the most out of it.

How often will parent workshops be offered?

Offering groups and workshops is new for Next Challenge, and we are slowlly rolling these out throughout 2022. We hope to steadily increase the number of parent workshops we offer, as we have had feedback from our families that this would be very helpful.

How can I find out about group programs being offered?

We wil aim to start sending regular newsletters a few times per school term with upcoming groups and workshops. Your child’s therapy team will also let you know about any upcoming groups that they feel are a good match for your child.

In future, we will also be advertising these groups and workshops to the wider community, and you can keep up to date with our group therapy schedule on social media (Facebook, Instagram).
